Happiness - Essay Example This can be due to the fact that there is a difference in each person’s perception of happiness is different and therefore it was expected that their responses could not be similar. What is apparent is that we can be able to adjust our thoughts so that we can be happy when we want to(Bstan-dzin-rgya-mtsho& Cutler, 2009). The first respondent finds happiness in the family setup and it is her source of comfort. To the second respondent, happiness is a feeling and he cannot point out any particular item that can be his main source of happiness.According to the Dalai Lama, true happiness can be achieved when we are able to build fruitful relationships with others as easy interactions with those around us makes life easier and more enjoyable. When we have hateful thoughts in regard to those around us it not only prevents us from attaining happiness but ruins our physical health (Monkton, 2010). There is a difference in their perceptions of happiness. Terry’s view of happiness has not changed over the years. Her view has expanded over time and this shows that all along, happiness to her has been linked to the ability to be with one’s family. It seemed that he put effort and managed to acquire these items but realized that these could not give him the satisfaction that he thought that these items could give him. How Does Film In the U.S Influence People Perception of Chinese Annotated Bibliography

How Does Film In the U.S Influence People Perception of Chinese Culture - Annotated Bibliography Example In this research, the article â€Å"Remade In Hollywood† serves as the primary source. Kenneth Chan is an associate professor and a director of film studies in the Department of English at the University of Colorado. His area of interests includes the Chinese cinema, Asian American films, cultural studies and the various movie genres. He is also on the editorial board of Journal of Chinese Cinemas. This makes him a credible source of information. The theme of Wuxia which is being implemented in the American movies is not a clear portrayal of the culture and often falls far from the branch. This is the reason that although these movies have received various awards in Hollywood industry yet they have failed to get appreciation from the Chinese audience. The only possible reason behind this might be because the director created the movies by keeping the audience in mind and did not pay attention to the cultural details and the sensitivity of the genre of the movie. Wuxia genre is governed by certain rules and regulations which only a true Chinese might understand and hence most of these movies are criticized by the purists. The paper is written with a clear set of mind and explains as to how the Wuxia tradition is shown in various Hollywood movies. The popular movies which are based on the Wuxia theme also show a misrepresentation of the Chinese culture as if the movies were directed keeping the audience in mind and not thinking about the Chinese people. This certainly creates a misconception among the viewers of such movies. The Wuxia culture is more than just fights and combats and hence these movies should have been made with a bit more research on the themes. This paper will help to form a strong base regarding the research.

Deforestation Article Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Deforestation - Article Example The limitation of deforestation outweighs its benefits and, therefore, the activity should be stopped at all cost. There are various effects of deforestation that can be witnessed in the world today. Cutting down of trees interferes with the water cycle, causes loss of forest species, results in soil erosion and decreasing the quality of life (Lewellen, 643). Trees tend to hold the soil together and therefore without them, and soil is often carried away by rivers and other water bodies. Accumulation of this land in water bodies causes siltation and reduces their qualities. Less forest cover results to flooding and landslide issues that are all connected to soil erosion. Trees often produce water vapor after absorbing rainwater.  The water vapor is later released to the atmosphere that then forms into clouds that result in rainfall. Additionally, over 70% of animals and plants live in forests. The trend is however changing as a result of continuous destruction of forest land by peop le all over the world. Loss of habitat can lead to extinction of various animal species. Given the many advantages associated that are associated with forests, countries all over the world should come up with strategies that will prevent continuous destruction of tree cover by setting up policies aimed at protecting forest land. Business Tax Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Business Tax - Essay Example on, whether an activity is considered as trading or non-trading depends on the specific facts of different cases as provided in the badges of trade (Hmrc.gov.uk, 2015). In this regard, this paper states the general rules relating to how HMRC determines trading and applies them to interpreted different transactions in different scenarios. The badges of trade aid in deciding whether a transaction after review, is a trade or non-trade for the application of corporation taxes. The first of the badges of trade is the profit-seeking motive which states that with evidence that the sole intention of purchasing an asset is to re-sell at a profit and not holding it as an investment leads to the conclusion that trading has occurred or is being carried on (Great Britain & Hodge, 2013). The implication of the profit-seeking principle is not that a profit-seeking objective should definitely mean a trade is being carried on but that this motive should be weighed with the other factors provided in the badges of trade. For an example of a case law, Salt v Chamberlain (1979) case concerned losses that had been made by an individual in the transaction of buying and selling quoted securities with a motive of making profits. In that case, the prosecution asserted that the evidence that an individual is engaged in transactions involving speculative dealings in the stock market is considered as carrying on a trade (Great Britain & Hodge, 2013). In this case, the claim was that all the other badges of trade were present but the General Commissioners and the court declined to disturb the findings indicating that they were not trade transactions (Hmrc.gov.uk, 2015). This case implied that the motive of seeking profit is a question of fact that and is not determined by the professed intentions of the person and in most cases it is inferred from the surrounding situations. The second badge is emphasized on the number of the transactions and states that repeated and systematic transactions

This essay declares that the criticism here is the same as above. In brief, the statistics cited are relevant to neither the null nor the alternate hypothesis. Certainly, the researchers proved the existence of a problem within the profession as indicated by statistics signaling that the greater majority planned to retire the profession. However, while one may logically assume that the stated intention is reflective of job satisfaction, the fact is that this is an unproven assumption, unsupported by the set of statistics provided by the re searchers. Web site review asignment Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Web site review asignment - Research Paper Example The three insurance companies reviewed in this paper are namely, AIG, Allianz and American Family Insurance. AIG and Allianz are both well-established in fact they hold the fourth and third places in the world, respectively. Meanwhile, American Family is a fast-growing insurance company established in 1927. Allianz originates in Germany while the other two are American companies. Expectedly, these three companies maintain websites for promotions and other customer concerns. As insurance companies, the three are expected to have something in common: all offer insurance coverage for individuals and businesses. Nevertheless, American Family makes a big difference in terms of its products and services. Table 1 presents a summary of what the three companies offer. The three insurance providers have some products in common including auto, health, life, and home/property insurance. At first glance, one can determine that American Family has more coverage than the two other companies, especially in terms of individual products. Likewise, the other two share the same range of benefits except for educational package, which only AIG offers. Insurance for vehicles have become a common trend, hence the three companies present coverage of such on their websites. Auto insurance usually covers new automobiles, and such is the case with the three companies. All boast of a wide coverage but AIG limits itself to luxury cars. Meanwhile, the two other companies offer almost the same products and services, including coverage of motor vehicles. Both of them have repair and towing services 24 hours a day, under even the most difficult weather conditions. Notably, American Family includes accessory programs to their usual coverage such as the Teen Safe Driver, Auto Rental Reimbursement and discounts to services. It is good to see that the two websites enumerate their programs and services but Allianz has a better way of
